With no vote on the matter in Ireland, no high level assessment and no
public consultation of Fracked Gas (or even LNG for that matter) in the
Irish Energy Mix,
the Majority of the Irish MEPS have voted with the one voice to say NO to fracked gas in Ireland.
The MEPs are the voice of Ireland in Europe and their voice cannot be ignored.
The
European Commission has designed a system to avoid high-level
assessment and the Irish MEPs could no longer stand idly by while
Ireland
risks approving with no public consultation, that Fracked Gas should be
considered as being in the Irish National Interest.
Any
neutral observer can see that this is the result of powerful lobbying
by the US fracked gas industry aiming to undermine the work of
Government
and
Institutions throughout Europe in the fight against climate
change for the real policy of Trade Over Climate.
Next,
the fracking lobby will be asking to reduce emissions by allowing them
to frack in Ireland instead of bringing fracked gas from
America....
that is what the fracking industry in the UK is now saying... You couldn't make it up really.
It
will ring hollow if we end up having to pay massive carbon taxes as we
live so far from the Capital in County Kerry while all our electric cars are powered
by US fracked gas,
a fossil fuel more damaging to the Climate than the
coal of Moneypoint.
Ignore the majority of the Irish MEPs at your peril.
And just to note.... Fianna Fail and Fine Gael MEPS refused to add their names to the Demands of the Majority of Irish MEPs.
They
were all invited to do and none had accepted to do so by the deadline
of this morning. The hypocrisy of it all.
